Editor's Choice - My Favourite Tech Tool for Learning - Ted-Ed!

TED Ed or TED's youth and education initiative

TED-Ed is a platform that offers inspirational material, enriching adacemic content, discussion questions, and more ways to get kids excited about technology and how it can be harnessed to change the world. Secondary school students might enjoy creating their own TED Talk and kids of all ages can broaden their horizons with TED Ed.

How does it work?

TED-Ed is a lesson creator platform that allows you to structure an assignment around a video and assss students' engagement with the material. the lesson format consists of a lesson title, a written intorduction (Let's begin), a series of multimple choice or open ended questions to help student think ("think"), a place for additiona resources apart from the video to encourage further exploration ("Dig Deeper"), an interactive class discussion ("Discuss"), and a closing ("Finally").

To start,
  1. Go to http://ed.ted.com
  2. Click register to sign up for an account
  3. Click on "Create a Lesson" and enter a keyword to your related subject or course to search for possible videos or just paste a url if you are certain of what video you will be using.
  4. AFter finish selecting a video, you will be moved to create the lesson page.
  5. note that there are always existing lessons for you to just share to your students, but you can always custoize the lessons or create a new one.
  6. Just follow the steps shown on the web page and finally when you are ready, click te "Publish" button and generate the link to share to your students.
  7. you can also watch your dashboard to view all the existing lessons that you have created or used in your classroom.

What I love about using TED Ed?

Its totally completely free of charge, easy to use with clean interface, also easy to access and have unlimited class size. rather than just simply sharing a youtube video with my students, I could create a complete guided courseware so that my students know what the course is about. For example when you are teaching language, you can search a video on speech or a conversation in English and let your students practice their listening and comprehension skills. You can also insert group, pair or individual assesments to your students and the best part is, you can always allow your student to not sign in or create and account. All they need to do is just simply type their name and answer the questions individually or as a group. I have created a lesson below for you guys to check it out, and let me know in the comment below what do you hink abou TED Ed!

This is the lesson, give it a try and share with me what do you think!
